Zach Norris, We Keep Us Safe - Book Talk & Signing

The NAACP of Santa Cruz County and Bookshop Santa Cruz welcome Zach Norris, executive director of the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, for a discussion and signing of his new book, We Keep Us Safe: Building Secure, Just, and Inclusive Communities—a groundbreaking new vision for public safety that overturns more than 200 years of fear-based discrimination, othering, and punishment. Zach presents strategies that argue for moving from a fear-based model of safety to a “culture of care”.

Zach will be joined by Marlena Henderson, whose story is featured in the book. She grew up in Santa Cruz County where her family was tragically impacted by the failure of public safety systems. She is now an advocate for reforms in criminal justice and mental health systems.
