In most ways, he’s what you could call a normal kid. Quentin Barnes enjoys sports like swimming and playing basketball, and has what his mother Denice Barnes calls a “goofy sense of humor.” When the fourth grader grows up, Quentin wants to be part-time professional baseball player and an entomologist. His enthusiasm for biology is already impressive for a nine-year-old.

Hammer Campaign Pledges to Keep Clean

Hammer isn't sure exactly what negative campaigning he's denouncing.

The supervisor’s race isn’t just getting personal. This time, it’s…hypothetical. The Weekly received a press release from the Eric Hammer for 5th District Supervisor campaign that reads, “Both my opponent and I signed the Code of Fair Campaign Practices pledging to run a clean campaign and I am sticking by my pledge. I challenge him to do the same and to denounce any negative campaign activities.”

County Treasurer Reacts to Interest Rate-Rigging

A massive bank-rigging scandal that sent shockwaves around the world is making for a little change in business n the Monterey Bay. Santa Cruz County Treasurer Fred Keeley announced today that he is severing the county government’s financial ties to Barclays, the British Bank that last week was featured front and center in a scathing report by Britain’s Treasury Select Committee regarding the massive interest rate fiasco.
